Originally released in 2017, To Live Is to Suffer is the debut album from Serbia's Jenner and in 2023 is being reissued by Fighter Records. All-female bands are still a something of a rarity in thrash, but it is good to see that changing as time passes and this band is more than up to the task. They play a melodic, US style of thrash similar to late '80s Megadeth, with some great guitar work and frankly better vocals. The songwriting is solid but not overly memorable and a lot of the songs sound similar, but since they are all good, it's not a deal breaker. The guitar work of Aleksandra Stamenković is the highlight as she can shred. While not earth-shattering, Jenner's debut is more than good enough to make me want to hear more from them. |
