Sons of Cult is a Spanish band formed in 2020 and signed to Fighter Records for their debut Back to the Beginning. Their music comes from the hard rock end of the pool with just enough bite to call it heavy metal. There are songs that are pure hard rock down to the cowbell such as "Fake," but more of the album is heavier, relatively speaking. "But Not Me" has a nice guitar solo while "Evil Trail" opens with a sweet and speedy riff and I only wish Sons of Cult kept it up for the entire song. The vocals are low in the mix and don't have much dynamic, so it's probably just as well. The songwriting is standard, and Sons of Cult isn't presenting anything here that is going to knock your socks off, it's just kind of generic when all is said and done. If you like a good bit of hard rock in your rotation along the lines of '80s acts such as Demon or Gallows Pole as well as newer groups like Spell and especially High Spirits, Back to the Beginning might appeal to you, but isn't going to wow many rank and file heavy metal fans. |
