This is an ambitious second album by this Kiwi band. Obviously very into "philosophic" Black Metal and with a dash of technical Death Metal, this is definitely not like the other girls. This album was obviously influenced by bands like Deathspell Omega or Nightbringer, with the long songs, complex arrangements, and cold atmosphere. All the parts of this are executed with a high degree of competence and musicianship, but the songs as a whole just do not hang together, which I suppose is to be expected with a band as self-consciously intellectual as this one. The production is good, and the songs sound good, but you will find your attention wandering throughout this album, as the compositions just do not compel as a whole. Still, a band with a lot of talent and potential. |
