A relatively new band formed in 2019, Fleshrot present here their first album and, as you have no doubt guessed from the band and album name, they operate in the gory death metal sphere. I really like the vocals, a deep, kind of cavernous growl that’s very up front while not burying the music. Musically, while there are some speedy parts, the album shines when things are slower, like doom-slow. Coupled with the heaviness, that makes for a very crushing, haunting and bone-chilling atmosphere. The faster parts aren’t too shabby, but they fall more into line with what you expect from the genre—very well done, but just expected. An album that hints at a good future for Fleshrot. |
