This is not a band I’ve been following much, if at all, and I kind of regretted that as I was listening to this new album. I’m usually more into the old-school death metal crowd, but Misery Index’s more modern approach is nothing to sneeze at and really comes out on top (or near the top; I haven’t heard everything out there). Nothing messy here, they play their death metal tight and the whole album feels like a fine-tuned engine. It’s heavy, fast and the guitar and so damn incisive, it hurts, and the heavy, precise drum work is just what’s needed to pin you to the ground. I’d say the album is not quite as good nor as melodic as its predecessor, Rituals of Power, but it definitely has a more raging feel to it. Good stuff.
