StormbounD is a symphonic metal band from Israel, and December their debut album. The symphonic hallmarks are here from the "beauty and the beast" vocals to the lush keyboards and neoclassical guitar work. Everything is played well, and it is an album that goes down smoothly every time it is on. The drawback is that the template StormbounD follows will be very familiar if you’ve listened to any amount of Delain, Epica, Within Temptation, etc. The performances are excellent, and the songwriting is quite good, but everything is safely within the lines and that would be OK if some aspects of December were transcendent, but that isn’t the case. That said, if you like symphonic metal, it is hard to imagine you not finding it enjoyable. StormbounD is off to a good start but isn’t challenging the titans of the genre yet. |
