This is very melodic and shaded stuff, coming from the direction of Black Metal but with a mellow, medieval vibe. It reminds me of a Cascadian sound, with a lot of layers to the sound and an epic, symphonic edge. Definite similarities to bands like Enmerkar and Drudkh. There are no blast-beats here, and this is slow and sweeping, with a lot of keys laid in the mix. I have seen this described as "shoegaze," and there is a definite post-metal vibe to it, but it has more oomph than that. These are all long songs with a ton of mood and atmosphere, but not anything you would call heaviness or aggression. I find this rather captivating, even if I need to be in the right mood for it. |
