I hadn’t realized it had been five years already since Kreator’s last album. Time flies. This one didn’t grab me right away when I heard it the first couple of times. Now, several more listens later, I wonder why for this is a speedy, catchy and melodic, yet somewhat brutal album. It’s, of course, not nearly as raw as their early stuff, so don’t expect a return to the ‘80s, but it’s very much in the vein of what they’ve been doing for the past 20 years or so. Mille’s vocals still sound angry and harsh, yet clean enough that you’ll often want to sing along—nothing new here, just the way I like his style. There’s a lot of heaviness under the hood even though the strong melodies sometimes distract from that if you’re not paying attention. The title track, "Strongest of the Strong," "Become Immortal" and "Conquer and Destroy" are almost instant earworms and pretty much guaranteed to get the crowd going at live shows. "Killer of Jesus" and "Crush the Tyrants" are decent but have yet to really grab me. "Midnight Sun" includes some clean and very melodic female vocals that sound out of place, but once you get used to that, it’s a pretty cool song with a chorus that sticks in your head. Well, let’s skip the track by track. The album is a little uneven, but there aren’t any songs on here that make me feel like hitting the skip button. Hate Über Alles is proof that Kreator still have what it takes to delivery some heavy and speedy thrash after nearly 40 years.
