Stories of Times Forgotten is the debut EP from Sweden’s Krilloan and the title plus the artwork, band name font, etc. should make it no surprise this is fantasy-based power metal. Song titles like "Yggdrasil," "Fireborn" and "Moonblade" put the finishing touches on that assumption. It’s a well-played affair with a clear sound and lots of speed. I’d say it is in the middle of the power metal pool, not as symphonic as Rhapsody nor as crunchy as Helloween. The songwriting is fine with the requisite catchy choruses and flashy guitar work and is quite entertaining in spots, but at the end of the day Stories of Times Forgotten doesn’t do anything that hasn’t been done a multitude of times before. I think most fans of Euro power metal will like it well enough while it is on, but may not remember much afterward. |
