This is an almost ridiculously huge album of dark atmospheric Black Metal from a band who are throwbacks in more ways than one. For one, this is an almost two-hour album of moody, keyboardy Black Metal that harks back to Evilfeast, old Emperor, and even Burzum with the massively long songs, the oppressive soundscape of the recording job, and the relentlessly grandiose Norwegian of the song and album titles, despite that the band founder and current sole member "Svartedoden" is Swedish. For another, the band has a lot of drama in the past, with no less than 8 demo recordings in a 12-year history plus a period of hiatus brought on when former vocalist "Lik" tried to strangle his bandmate. Once you digest all that, you have an enjoyable if overlong album of extremely evocative music that really conjures up a gloomy, Dark Ages vibe. Music for writing your Pagan manifesto while the world freezes to death.
