Wow. This kills. This Spanish death metal band sure knows how to kick ass and take no prisoners. Beyond the Burial Mound is fast enough to snap your neck if you try to headbang to it, and the crusty mix gives it rather infectious catchiness that drags you in and calls for repeat plays. The album is heavy, raw, savage and fast for the most part, but there are some pounding slower passages that’ll pin you to the ground. I’m reminded a bit of Hellhammer and early ‘90s Scandinavian black metal at times—think early Darkthrone—despite this being a death metal album. It’s very old school in spirit but sounds kind of up to date, Sepulchral showing their influences but putting their own twist into it. If you like dark, yet somewhat catchy and kind of rock ‘n’ roll-ish death metal with some black metal influence, this one is a sure bet. |
