Damnation is the sixth album from Sweden's Blazon Stone (not counting the pandemic-inspired Return to Port Royal: Definitive Edition from 2020) and if you don't know by now, these guys worship Running Wild. You can look at what Blazon Stone do in two ways. One, they are unimaginatively ripping off Running Wild, though they do it damn well. Two, they are paying homage to a hugely successful band and style of power metal, so essentially fans get double the high seas awesomeness. Personally, I'm in the latter camp. I enjoy all the double-kick drums, gravelly vocals belting out catchy choruses, guitar harmonies and sea shanty melodies. The more the merrier, as long as it is done well and as I said, Blazon Stone do it damn well. There's nothing on Damnation Blazon Stone (or Running Wild, for that matter) haven't done before and while the songwriting is solid, it is on the formulaic side but that won't stop fans of this style from loving every note.
