Purifying Blade may be clocking in at only 29 minutes, but it feels longer than that. Sometimes it's a bad thing when I say an album feels longer than it is, but not in this case. It means you get a pretty packed 29 minutes. This is black/death, kind of "war metal" type of stuff but not quite as chaotic as the Western Canada powerhouses of the genre such as Revenge. The album starts with a short spoken intro and then it's pedal to the metal and doesn't really let go until the end, with more heaviness than you can shake a stick at. I like how this is pretty raw and in your face, yet clean enough that it's not a complete mess and you can actually tell the songs apart. The vocals are that demonic, right out of the depths of hell, mostly undecipherable style that's associated with the genre and they're certainly a great fit to the musical onslaught on display here. I won't go as far as to say that the band is doing anything original, but if you find "traditional" war metal a little too much for your taste and want something a little lighter yet close enough, this is probably as good as it gets. Good stuff.
