The musicians in Poland's Ironbound clearly listened to a LOT of Iron Maiden in their formative years (didn't we all?), an assertion that is borne out by the music on their debut, The Lightbringer. Thumping bass, twin guitar harmonies, clear, powerful vocals, it's all here. They even have a song I thought was an Iron Maiden cover but is actually "WHEN Eagles Dare." The riffs are not bad at all ("The Witch Hunt" is a prime example) but there's some repetition in the vocals ("Smoke and Mirrors" being the big offender) that is occasionally distracting. Otherwise, The Lightbringer is solid album of throw a fist in the air traditional heavy metal that stands on the shoulders of the mighty Maiden without aping them. Countless bands have followed the same template and Ironbound do it as well as any, so check it out if Iron Maiden is your thing. |
