Armnatt's third album is "unevolved" raw second-wave black metal and they make no apologies for it. In case, that wasn't clear, if you're looking for something that sounds fresh or different, Eternal Flame is not it. This stuff reminds me quite a bit of early Burzum, mainly because of that loud, abrasive, barbed-wire guitar sound that just rips. And the music itself is very much reminiscent of that early to mid-90s Norwegian black metal era. Insane screeches coming at you from the depths of hell, raw, brutal and chaotic music largely deprived of anything remotely pretty, just raw, dirty, vicious and cold black metal. Strangely, I haven't heard many, if any, bands making that specific sound in a while. As I said earlier, this is not original, but if you find yourself longing for the early days of the second wave, Eternal Flame is like a trip back in time. |
