I get a ton of stuff from Aleksey at Satanath Records, and I am glad to see some real quality stuff in this bunch. Sterbefall are a Russian band who have a German name and all their lyrics are in German, but their sound is not like anything typical of either. This is based in Black Metal but also pulls in some Doom influences for a big, involving sound. Despite calling themselves "post-" Black Metal, this is not the strummy, moody sound that would suggest. This album is heavy as fuck, with crunching and melodic riffs used to build songs that boom and thunder along. Try as I might, I can't really peg one other band this sounds like, and these days that's a big compliment. |
