This is a death metal band with Max Cavalera and his son Igor. I almost stayed away as whenever I see "Cavalera" I think, "Soulfly" (ugh), but I'm glad I decided to check it out. The band and album are aptly named as this is hate-filled punk-infused death metal that, from the lyrics I could decipher, screams a lot against social injustice and other bad crap the modern world has to deal with. I found that to be quite a good release of the frustration accumulated in the past few months. This album is not polished in any way: this is raw, barebones, thrashy and dirty death metal and even the vocals sound dirty. There's that crossover feel that's not unlike what we could hear in some extreme-ish thrash in the mid to late '80s, a style that's kind of hit or miss, but works really well here. If you're in the mood for some death metal with a punkish vibe and more anger than you can shake a stick at, this is it right here. |
