Aegrus present here some very fast and violent black metal with the pedal to the metal—don't try to headbang to some of this stuff or you'll seriously mess yourself up. The vocals are mostly undecipherable screeches, but quite fitting to the speedy frenzy of the music. The band has influences all over the place, from the blasting '90s Scandinavian bands for sheer speed and bulldozing approach, but also the likes of Dissection for the more melodic and atmospheric passages that give the listener a little bit of breathing room. In Manus Satanas strikes a delicate balance between a take-no-prisoners onslaught of ravaging black metal and a more toned-down melodic style that even adds a little catchiness here and there, but for the most part it's speed, speed, speed. I can listen to this over and over and not get tired of it. If you can't get enough of speedy, blasting black metal, you owe it to yourself to check this out. |
