Damn this is relaxing. Aorta is a very slow-paced doom metal album with growl-ish harsh vocals that just chugs along with beautiful, soothing melodies. Contrary to when I first got into the genre some 20 years ago, I find this more relaxing than depressing. Sure, it's not music that will cheer you up, but I found that if you just want to kick back and disconnect and just be taken away by the music, Aorta is a great soundtrack for that. It's very melodic, melancholic, and things can get pretty heavy at times with the guitars occasionally getting quite crunchy (but don't expect anything flashy) and those drums can pound it as needed. The album is a little long, at nearly 69 minutes, but I find it goes by relatively quickly despite it being rather uneventful, just chugging along and taking you on a mellow ride. Sometimes that's just what you need. |
