Nothing Louder than Silence is the second album from Italy's Angel Martyr and finds them drifting away from the Iron Maiden worship of their debut, Black Book: Chapter One (I guess we'll have to wait for Chapter Two). There is still a touch of progressiveness in their songwriting but not the Dream Theater, keyboard-driven, jazzy sort, more of the very early Queensrÿche or even Manilla Road variety. The overall sound is much more in a traditional US style, punchy and speedy for the most part with lots of sharp edges and in your face guitar work. The singer is a little all over the place but never out of tune, just kind of exploring the boundaries a bit. Nothing Louder than Silence finds Angel Martyr fleshing out their individual sound with things like blasting drums on "My Name is Legion" and a repetitive yet catchy chorus on "Reckless Master." Some things work better than others, but this is still an album lasting just over an hour that does not get boring or tedious. If you like music that is slightly different and has a US metal feel, à la Omen, Thrust or Manilla Road, Nothing Louder than Silence is worth checking out.
