When I first heard this album one of my first thoughts what that it sounded like Finnish black metal. But, nope, it's from Germany. Oh... wait... the band members are Finns who moved to Germany. Mystery solved; this is German Finnish black metal. ;) The album is filled with mostly fast-paced black metal with a strong emphasis on melody, a mix that also reminds me here and there of the early 2000s French scene. Don't let the use of the word "melody" fool you as this is not watered down in any way. The vocals are powerful, hateful screeches that can go up against the best of the genre and the music is violent and borderline savage at times, while still enjoying a pretty clean sound that makes it easy to enjoy its many layers. Sworn to Profound Heresy is one of those albums filled with wall-to-wall busy metal that doesn't leave much room to catch your breath, and the band's expert use of melody intertwined with this metallic onslaught succeeds in making most songs quite memorable from the get-go. Good stuff. |
