I thought Solitary's XXV EP was decent but unessential groovy thrash, but they certainly redeemed themselves with this album (I'd like to think it was because of my review, but I doubt it). The Truth Behind the Lies is actually quite old school, making me think a little bit of late '80s Testament crossed with a subtle hint of Metallica's "black album" (but mostly Testament, let's make that clear). This is very "punchy" thrash with a good amount of speed and lots of heaviness, with enough catchiness to keep things interesting and somewhat memorable. The album doesn't relent, pretty much keeping things fast and heavy from beginning to end, with some slower passages that pin you to the ground through their sheer heaviness. If "clean" late '80s thrash is your thing, this album will feel like you just travelled back to those days. |
