Nearly 20 years have passed since I last reviewed an album by this Italian power metal band. I actually went back and listened to their debut, 1999's Mistress of the Shadowlight, for old times' sake. They haven't lost the fire. Lifeblood is what you're bound to expect from Italian power metal with symphonic and progressive tendencies, that is very upbeat with lots of speed and catchier, singalong melodies than you can shake a stick at. This is rather a keyboard-heavy, maybe a bit too much here and there but not enough to really complain about, but there's plenty of cool guitar work (though I'd have liked more crunchy bits) and the fast, powerful, foot-tapping drumming that comes with the territory. The powerful vocals deliver a good number of catchy lines, enough to watch yourself when listening to this in public. ;)

In the past 20+ years there's been a lot of bands doing this kind of stuff, so there's nothing new here and some may actually be tired of the sound, but if you're looking for some accomplished musicianship and songwriting, Lifeblood is packed with uplifting power metal to brighten your day.
