Alcotopia is a band that is not exactly easy to find a lot of information on. About the only thing that I could completely verify is they are from Vilnius, Lithuania and have been active since 2014. Other than that, there isn't a lot of activity on their Bandcamp or Facebook pages. Overall, it doesn't matter that much as we are here for the music, first and foremost.

I have to admit, when I first saw the name of this band, I was expecting a cross between Tankard and Municipal Waste. I wasn't entirely wrong but, there is more to this band than the band name would intimate. They definitely play Thrash Metal, but not quite all out. There is a bit more melody here than I would have expected, and at times this falls squarely into the straight Heavy/Speed Metal category. I mostly see this on tracks that aren't full throttle, and I believe this makes the album more enjoyable overall. That bit of variety helps break up the album a little and makes certain tracks stand out more. I like the fact that it seems they actually put some thought into the track order. They spread the differing tempos throughout the album. I really wish more bands would think about this.

The songs are all pretty good. Nothing that is going to amaze you, but all very well executed. Some very nice riffs and leads that take advantage of the band's use of melody. Drums are pretty standard for the genre. The vocals are more of a singing growl if that makes any sense. Not really harsh, but certainly not clean either. There isn't anything here that any metal fan will dislike. That being said, I think that is the bad part of this album as well. It IS an enjoyable album as it is playing, but I don't see this album sticking with you after it is over either. There is definitely talent here, and this will be a band to monitor. I could see this band coming up with something special in the future.

Overall, a pretty enjoyable album that I can't find a lot of fault with, but nothing that will make a lasting impression either. If you are a fan of the genre, give it a listen, your mileage may vary.
