There was no press release with this EP, but apparently this reissue is remastered. I own a couple of Sacred Reich albums but never paid much attention to them. Let's change that. So anyway, this was an EP that followed their 1987 debut, Ignorance. The first couple of tracks are kind of underwhelming, rather uneventful thrash and they both come out a little too flat for my taste. Then there's a pretty cool cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" that doesn't try to do anything stupid or fancy with the original, and you could say this is where the EP takes off. "Draining You of Life" packs a lot more power and attitude than the two opening tracks and maybe they should have opened with that. Fast traditional thrash that takes no prisoners. The last two tracks are live renditions of "Ignorance" and "Death Squad" and they also leave the first two in the dust, again more in-your-face thrash and other than sounding slightly rawer than the studio tracks, you'd be hard-pressed to tell that they're live. So, this is a nice little EP that unfortunately starts pretty flat, but at least it makes up for it later. |
