Galdrum is the debut release from Denver, Colorado's Stormkeep, a black metal band working in an epic style not far removed from bands like Uada, Dissection and Thulcandra. Songs "Glass Caverns of Dragon Kings" and "Of Lore..." top 10 minutes in length and run the gamut from ultra-fast, tremolo-fueled riffing to slower, folky passages that create emotional ebbs and flows. This makes Galdrum quite entertaining while it is on but Stormkeep haven't really established an individual sound, so the songs are not as memorable as they might be. Regardless, this is a promising debut from a band that should be watched closely by epic black metal fans. |
