This is some cool black metal out of Finland. Sarvekas play heavy, powerful black metal that I guess I could resume to "'90s Scandinavian meets early 2000s French black metal." Some of their songs are loosely more of the Marduk/Dark Funeral (etc.) variety—blasting away and taking no prisoners, whereas in others they let off the gas pedal a little and put more emphasis on melody and have kind of an epic vibe to them. The atmosphere is anywhere from dark and gloomy to more upbeat, kind of catchy even, and the band has done a great job making it all gel together. There's really nothing new here and this is one of those cases where it doesn't matter because the execution more than makes up for it. Worth checking out if you like fast black metal interspersed with a good dose of melody. |
