Eshtadur are a South American band playing an interesting hybrid of Swedish-styled Melodeath with quite a few elements of more technical Black Metal added in. The riffs and leads are definitely of the school of Dark Tranquility or classic In Flames, while the drumming is much more tight and aggressive, and the vocals sound a lot like Nergal on the mid-period Behemoth releases. It adds a degree of vicious and sharp technicality that a lot of Melodeath bands lack. The playing is solid, and the production is really pro, so this all sounds clear and sharp as a razor. The songwriting is a bit flat, and all of this sounds a lot alike, but it will keep your head banging. Eshtadur may not be doing anything new, but they are doing what they do really well. If you wish Melodeath had more blasting, pinpoint aggression, then check this out. |
