This band is a mainstay of the USDM scene, and has been with us for over 30 years now, though only guitarist/vocalist John McEntee has been around the whole way. I have never been a major fan of this band, and I almost always find their albums entertaining, but not exciting, and this one is really no different. With their 12th album Incantation are once again holding the very middle of the Death Metal road.
This album is competent, with a solid guitar sound, good playing, and songwriting that occasionally does something unusual, but is mostly content to thug the same kinds of grooves death bands have been playing since the '80s. Never part of the hyperactive, technical crowd, Incantation have a much more crunchy, melodic Euro sound as their base, though definitely not a Swedish style. This is just Death Metal as straight-up as it can be made. I like Incantation while they are on, but afterward I can't remember anything about their music.
