This band's press release describes their sound as "black thrash n' roll", but I'm not really hearing the "roll" part. Anticosm's sound is more like blackened melodic death metal with a good infusion of thrash. The songs have a good blackened death foundation with an omnipresent melodic edge that sometimes takes a step back to leave more room for aggression, which helps vary the album enough to keep the interest up throughout. The guitar solos are straight out of the traditional and thrash schools, breaking away from the "extreme" side of their music and pumping in something more accessible and sometimes cool enough to break out that air guitar. For the genre, The Call of the Void is definitely not the most extreme or aggressive album you'll hear and it's a little bit "safe", but it's pretty well done and calls for repeat listens when you're in the right mood. |
