From the suburbs of Ashtabula, Ohio comes Thrash Metal five-piece Subtype Zero, who started as Cringe in 2013 before changing their name to something less ridiculous and released their debut, The Astral Awakening, in 2018. These lads bow low to the altar of Slayer while also incorporating some Crossover influence with the Riley Gale-esque vocals of Hector Rivera, and they go at it with tight musicianship and energy to spare. The twin-axe duo of Steve Buhl and Nick McGroder throw out enough ripping riffs and sick solos to challenge that of Hanneman and King in their prime, and when this band fires on all cylinders they can stand tall with the rest of the Thrash revival. They may not be original, but Subtype Zero deliver the goods with attitude and skill, making them well worth checking out. |
