Gododdin is the second album from Scotland's Midnight Force and is essentially a continuation from their debut Dunsinane; early '80s heavy metal with simple, rocking riffs, vocals with more energy than anything else and an epic, lyrical bent. The sound is thin and cold, reminding me of European releases from back in the '80s by Denmark's Witch Cross, Germany's Brainfever and Belgium's Killer, just to name a few. I feel like the debut had more memorable songs but the songwriting on Gododdin is more consistent with less highs but less lows. A mid-tier release by a solid band covering familiar ground but with higher-brow lyrics. |
