Arx Atrata's 2016 album Spiritus in Terra sounded a lot like Summoning mixed with some elements from Moonsorrow, but this follow-up sounds a lot more individual. Make no mistake, this is still highly atmospheric Black Metal with big arrangements and a ton of mood, but this time out the influences are integrated more deeply into the band's own style. Overall this is heavier and somewhat more aggressive than the last album, with a harder edge to the guitars and the vocals, but it still packs in a lot of melody evocative of lost times and mysterious places. An album to get lost in. |
