Citrinitas is the third EP in as many years for The Netherlands' Shuulak. Building on last years' Albedo, this EP finds the band continuing to refine their traditional metal sound and sharpen their songwriting skills. The three full songs ("The Chosen", "Altar of Gods" and "Chaosborn") are catchy and well written with some creative riffing and choruses that are clearly modern but retain some old-school vibe. Citrinitas is a "safe" release with songs that should easily get your feet tapping and your head banging but are maybe a little short on the "wow" factor. Nevertheless, Citrinitas is an improvement on Shuulak's last effort and their current trajectory points to something even better next time.
