Idylls of Woe is the third full-length from Dogbane, an American band with more of an early '80s U.K. sound. Dogbane's guitars are sharp and gritty and the echo effects on the vocals enhance the old-school vibe. The songwriting is consistent throughout the album, never racking up a killer track but never faltering. Idylls of Woe is a celebration of the almighty riff, some faster, some slower, and if you enjoy banging your head to music that has a little hint of the unique, like Cirith Ungol or Hell, you'll want to give this one a spin. |
