Visceral Disgorge play it fast and brutal in the 31-minute onslaught that is Slithering Evisceration. The vocals are quite guttural and just above my tolerance limit for those and I don't think anything cleaner in style could have served the music this well. These guys are all over the place, going from the insanely fast to slow and crushingly heavy and then back again throughout the album. I often find brutal death metal to be a little sloppy and too muddy, but Visceral Disgorge are all about razor-sharp guitars and precise, pounding drums and at times their style reminds me a lot of some progressive death metal bands. I expected this to just be a barrage of noise. Colour me agreeably surprised. |
