Interesting little discovery here. Verglas (ice, as in ice storm, a fitting name for a Canadian band) play raw and dirty black metal with some punk influences and there's even a hint of 70s rock in there, making this demo quite entertaining and the punk-rock vibe gives it a catchiness that one could compare to black 'n' roll to some extent, though this is closer to punk and much more basic; that's really what makes its charm and caught my attention right on the first listen. The vocals are pure black metal, however; no screwing around with styles here as the vocalist masters those haunted, evil, demented screams better than most. Put all this together and you get something pretty unique, which is not something I often say. |
