France's Killers is not exactly a band I often see mentioned but, get this: This is their 17th studio album since they formed in 1982 (their debut coming out in 1985) and they have a few live albums and a DVD on top of that. Unlike many metal bands of the time, these guys never went away when metal "died" in the 90s. They kept chugging along and releasing albums. One of them is sung in English, with the others all sung in French. Trajets-dits (a play of word meaning "tragedies") sees Killers continuing in the same direction as their last few albums. It's a modern-sounding heavy/power metal that is nonetheless strongly rooted in their heavy/speed metal debuts, so there's something to like here for fans of old school and more modern heavy metal alike. When I say "modern" here, I don't mean that in the crappy sense of the term. Killers have a knack for heavy-hitting, pounding heavy metal that's punctuated by strong melodies that just stick and get you humming long after it's over. The gruff vocals that have been a staple of their sound are still at the rendezvous and sound as good as ever. Trajets-dits won't surprise you if you've been keeping up with Killers, but it won't disappoint either. |
