I've been spinning this album for a while and after many listens, I can't say that I like or dislike it. The album is kind of unfocused, sometimes sounding like good melodic death metal with some striking melodies, sometimes sounding more modern-ish (in a bad way), and those parts really leave a bad taste. I'm not the band's biggest fan, but their old stuff was rightly hailed as different, while this sounds like a band that's just trying to mix some old and current trends. It's not actually bad, but the good melodic death metal – and occasional more in-your-face material – is hurt by the presence of a few lacklustre songs as well as some questionable vocal work here and there. There's nothing here to make you reach for the stop button, but nothing to make you replay it over and over either.
