With a name like Altarage, I wasn't expecting much out of this. Well, never judge a book by its cover, as the saying goes, and the same is true for band names. Endinghent turned out to be a very interesting listen. This is doomy, slow, raw black metal that just pins you to the ground and makes you feel like someone is using a cheese grater on you. In a good way. The music is borderline depressive but really feels more disturbing and even warlike at times – not in the sense of a marching army but more like the sense of devastation that overcomes you at the sight of a battlefield once the fight is over. A very dark and strangely satisfying aural assault. |
