Gateway to Hell appears to be a relatively new band from Baltimore, MD and Clovers is their debut EP after a couple of demos. Doom is predominant style with a fat guitar sound soaked in reverb and clear, low and powerful vocals. I like that most of the songs have at least some parts that move along and don't plod even if the songwriting isn't mesmerizing. The singer has just the hint of a southern drawl and reminds me of Molly Hatchet's Danny Joe Brown and his throaty yell, giving Gateway to Hell a Southern Rock vibe mixed into the Doom while avoiding becoming stoner. Clovers is definitely promising, so Doom fans will want to put this band on the radar. |
