Russian Death Metal institution Bestial Deform is centered on vocalist/guitarist Kirill Ulanenkov, the remaining founding member from the band's formation back in 1990.
I really liked the band's first two albums, Together We'll Destroy the World (1994) and Bellum Contra Omnes (1994) which were originally available in cassette format back in the day but have been re-released on CD since. The band's old school Death Metal was just done right, so it was easy to like.
As for the band's fifth studio album, ...Ad Leones, unfortunately it's disappointing. Something is missing and it doesn't sound anywhere as good as the aforementioned albums. What is missing is that old-school Death Metal vibe and here they sound like a watered-down version of everything they used to represent. This is a modern-sounding and uninspired album that seems to be trying to sound brutal for brutality's sake. Imagine S.F.U. playing Morbid Angel's Gateways to Annihilation album spiced with some Suffocation and Torture Killer but without any passion or determination to get it right.
It is a shame this once kick-ass band has put out an album of such low quality.
