Grond offer some old-school death metal influenced by the Swedish greats, mixed a bit of the heaviness and precision of some American acts. A few more "evil"-sounding passages even remind me of Deströyer 666 here and there – not much of that, but enough to be noticeable every time. The deep growls are kept classy and you can even make up quite a bit of the lyrics. Some death metal vocalists could learn from that guy. Atmosphere, heaviness, speed, some catchiness ("Steel Coffins" is pretty freakin' cool) and tight playing make this a joy to listen to and fans of old-school death metal, predominantly Swedish, should find something to like here. |
