This is really good for a demo recording. Even though it is just three tracks, they are all long, so you get over 30 minutes of music, and the recording is murky enough to sound retro without sounding crap. Gloomed are a band from San Diego playing melodic Doom metal that owes the obvious debts of inspiration to bands like Sabbath and Electric Wizard. The riffs are hooky and heavy, the playing is sharp, and even though the compositions are long they never wear out their welcome. Bassist/vocalist Scotch has a nice baritone that is recorded with a lot of echo, so it sounds appropriately occult. He's not a great singer, but he stays in his lane and works well with the music. This is definitely a band to look out for, as this demo shows a tremendous amount of promise. |
