That was a really well-written and funny article thoroughly -and it brought back some memories too. Great job Mike!

Cool article! Love that FW ad. Even though I wasn't around to read those magazines in the eighties, it reminds me of trawling through issues of Metal Hammer, skipping past the articles on Disturbed and Papa Roach to find Spinefarm and Century Media articles (although, the singer from Papa Roach did list Operation: Mindcrime in a top five albums feature).

Glad you liked it

I plan to do it again next month and I'll try to pick out some "news" from the articles. Maybe I can find something that ended up being hilariously wrong  :lol

I enjoyed it. FW ad is obviously best, but that crack about Destruction was funny, too.  8)

Slayer's Show No Mercy got 2/5 in the June 84 issue.

"One of the slew of bands taking 'demon-rock' to its logical extreme...the work of bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King is an acquired taste at best..."  :lol

Let me know what you think and if there's something different you'd like me to focus on for next month.

Good reading as always Mike. Just keep on doing them in the future as well.

I have no suggestions how to write them any different way. You are already pro enough at what you do, focusing on those essential and interesting things in your text.

AHHHHH Hit Parader and Circus....throw I have one here that, I shit you not, has an article on this amazing singer Michael Bolton...LOL

Used to buy these religiously until I came across Metal Hammer and found a magazine that was at least more informative if not actually right. I still remember reading all the horrible reviews of Slayer's new album Reign In Blood which I clearly remember the reviewer saying that although it was only 29 minutes he felt as though it was 29 minutes to long...lol

Outside of these magazines however the only way you really found new bands was tape trading and reading thank lists on the albums you bought.

Nicely done Mike...brought back some memories...:)

I'll try to put it online tomorrow, worst case scenario it'll be a little later this week.
