Title: Dream setlist
Post by: Mystophales on July 16, 2017, 10:47:23 AM
If you could personally pick the setlist for any currently active band what would it be?

I was listening to Live after Death just now and I can not think of any setlist that was better than this on any other time I have seen Maiden. Book of Souls in Lincoln was my 19th time seeing them live which includes seeing them twice during the World Slavery Tour. I don't think i would change one song on this set. Maybe add A few songs from Somewhere in Time but otherwise I think it's perfect.

Churchills Speech
Aces High
2 Minutes to Midnight
The Trooper
Revelations
Flight of Icarus
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Powerslave
The Number of the Beast
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden
Run to the Hills
Running Free
Wrathchild
22 Acacia Avenue
Children of the Damned
Die With Your Boots On
Phantom of the Opera

Add in
Wasted Years
Heaven Can Wait
Loneliness of the long Distance Runner
Alexander the Great

If I'm not mistaken they have never played those last two live (at least I don't ever recall hearing either of them).

Only other dream scenario I would have is Metallica playing their first three albums in their entirety in order. Love them or hate what they have become, those first three albums were powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline...:)

I also saw Maiden on the World Slavery Tour and feel that was as close to the perfect set list for me. Add Sanctuary and Drifter to push it to 11...

Kamelot's setlist on One Cold Winter's Night was perfect  for me. Their setlists on The Black Halo Tour in Europe and Japan were also perfect. However, their setlists on The Black Halo Tour in North America were weaker in comparison, but oh well it still stands as my favorite concert ever (I saw them in NYC in '06).

Stratovarius had a perfect setlist when I saw them in '06, although I rarely listen to this band any more.

Nightwish's setlist on End of an Era was also of course perfect (although I don't care much for Stone People).

Seeing Maiden any time from 1980 until 1988 would be impeccable, really. They didn't have any bad songs until the 90s.

Erm.......The Prisoner?

OT: Setlist for Summoning (I know they'll never be live, but let me dream)

Mirdautas Vras
The Rotting Horse on Deadly Ground
Like Some Snow-White Marble Eyes
Old Morning's Dawn
Might and Glory
Caradhras
Beleriand
In Hollow Halls Beneath the Fells
Northward
Farewell

What's wrong with "The Prisoner"?

The Prisoner is a great song. The only one from NOTB I can live without is Gangland but even that one isn't bad, just doesn't do anything for me.

And I agree Bruce, nothing truly bad in that 9 year run.

Obnoxious chorus and irritating riffs, mostly.  They certainly made a lot worse in the 90's, though.
