Title: Top five thrash albums ever
Post by: Mystophales on June 14, 2017, 06:20:04 AM
Inspired by Omni's post about favorite songs I was wondering a question myself. I am always curious what people will say when faced with a limiting  question. That being said, what would be your top 5 greatest thrash albums of all time. Mine in order...

1. Metallica - Master of Puppets
2. Megadeth - Rust in Peace
3. Testament - The Gathering
4. Death Angel - The Ultra Violence
5. Megadeth - Peace Sells

Honorable mentions...
Testament - The New Order
Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Metallica - Kill Em All
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Justice
Annihilator - Alice in Hell

I could keep going but my boss is looking at me funny since I'm not actually working...lol

Ok, one band per one album...

01. SLAYER - R.I.B.
02. DARK ANGEL - Darkness Descends
03. INFERNÄL MÄJESTY None Shall Defy
04. VIO-LENCE - Eternal Nightmare
05. EXODUS - Bonded by Blood

If you don't like these albums you are not my friend...

Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Heathen - Victims Of Deception
Kreator - Coma Of Souls
Metallica - Ride/Justice
Forbidden - Twist Into Form

Tough one as there's a lot of thrash records I rate around as highly as those five. So here's a bunch of sick honorable mentions

Toxik - Think This (would have been top five if not for "Out On The Tiles" gumming up the works).
Coroner - No More Color
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic Of Violence
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Exodus - Bonded In Blood
Artillery - By Inheritance
Realm - Suiciety

I could go on, especially if we start talking death/thrash.

Greatest of all time

1. Megadeth - Rust In Peace or Peace Sells
2. Megadeth - Killing is my business and business is good
3. Metallica - Master of puppets
4. Slayer - Reign in Blood
5. Anthrax - Among the Living

I think Best is too subjective, and that Greatest is a little easier to measure. Best gets caught up in personal preference, where as greatest takes into account influence and legacy. I don't think any album can contest Rust in Peace or Peace Sells. They are 2 of metal's most influential albums, and not to mention two of metal's best albums.

In no particular order and without giving this a lot of thought:

Vendetta - Brain Damage
Holy Terror - Mind Wars
Heathen - Victims of Deception
Overkill - The Years of Decay
Slayer - Hell Awaits

Honorable mentions:

Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Exumer - Possessed by Fire
Holy Terror - Terror and Submission
Coroner - No More Color
Artillery - By Inheritance
Sacrifice - Forward to Termination
Heathen - Breaking the Silence
Forbidden - Twisted into Form

Have to say that there are MANY bands that gave out maybe only 2-3 albums but kicked the big/teutonic 4s' asses.

Kind of says something about my love of this genre that I believe I have heard every single album mentioned except for the Sauron and Insane albums...lol

I really should have put RIB in my top 5 with as much as I listened to that damn thing...:)

I was never a Slayer fan in the 80s but the people I hung around with were so I heard it often. I've come to appreciate it more now plus having seen them a couple times in the past few years.

Always glad to see other thrash metal fans. Insane's album that I listed is something I found randomly on YouTube a while back, which happens to sound a lot like Slayer's Show No Mercy album. I like Slayer's album more than Insane, but like Luxi, I decided to list only one album per band. Definitely check it out if you liked Show No Mercy.
