New story!  "The Bones of Fallen Gods"

The storm raged for nine days, and when it ended, it cast Scylla and what remained of her crew upon a black island ringed with jagged rocks. Exhausted men lay half-dead at the oars as the sea heaved them up, and then there was a terrible ripping and spears of glassine stone tore through the hull, impaling flesh and wood alike. The ship foundered, water sweeping the decks as another wave heaved them up, and then they were cast down upon the black deadly shore in a cascade of blood and brine as the ship sheared apart.

Scylla struck the water, already struggling for the shore. The rocks were sharp as swords, and she was glad of her armor that ground the bitter points to pieces. The water was only waist-deep here, and she found her feet and struggled inland. Men foundered about her, and she caught those she could and helped drag them from the waves, all but hurling them shoreward.

She trod upon a beach of black sand, and her sandals crunched on the broken rock. Her sword hung at her side, and her bronze breastplate still gleamed in the half-light, but she had little else. The remains of the ship were crushed upon the rocks by the incoming tide, and pieces of it washed about her knees. She spat into the water and looked about her, counting. She had six men alive. After a desperate battle and then what seemed an age of the raging storm, this was what she came to. She had no knowledge of where she was, nor even what place this might be. The sky was still heavy with clouds, and lightning flickered far away to the west.

The waves seethed past her legs as they drew back, and she saw she stood not only upon volcanic rock, but on bones. The beach was embedded with hundreds of bones, bleached by sun and turned green by the water, they were exposed when the waves withdrew, hands and ribs and empty skulls looking up at the pitiless sky.

New Story!

The Red King dreamed upon his ebon throne, at the end of the world beneath the fires of a darkling sky. His kingdom was empty and silent, his palace thrall to ghosts and empty echoes, and his throne room a place of darkness save for the glow of the ruby upon his iron crown. He was old, and the ages passed slowly, the world growing colder beneath the dying sun.

He waited now for the passing of his age, for he had ruled long, since the world was young. He had come to this world a king when it was green and new, the earth still scarred by the passing of the glaciers like glass mountains, the land roved by monstrous beasts and primitive men. Here he made himself their lord, with the power of his great sword and the sorcery in his red stone. Nations rose and bowed to him, empires paid him homage. He was the overlord of the whole earth.

Now his time was ending, as he had always known it must. Now the sun grew colder in the sky, and day was like night. The sky was always black and filled with a billion fiery stars. The silver moon was broken into pieces and they tumbled through the dark overhead in a great arc, slow and cold like a corpse in the sky. Now and again bright lances of fire came down as pieces of the moon fell to earth in fire. He heard them sometimes when he tried to sleep. Thunder in the dark.

The Tower of the Worm

The ram crashed a final time against the gates of Magai, and the iron head split the oaken gates apart with a sound like thunder. The armies of Akor the Tyrant lifted up their spears and red swords and they cheered as the gates broke at last. The great wooden beams, scarred by the blows of swords and studded with broken arrows, fell inward, tearing free of the stone gate-towers as they collapsed. After nine days, the city was broken.

Stone rained down in a cascade, the defenders caught in it hurtling to their deaths, screaming as they were crushed by the fall. All around the ancient city the black legions of the tyrant intensified their assault. Catapults hammered at the stone walls, splashing the battlements with fire. Arrows scythed through the smoke-covered sky and cut down men wherever they showed themselves. Battle drums called forth with their voices, and the war-horns bellowed.

The Brothers of the Red Sword formed before the broken gate. A thousand men in red armor, faceless and deadly. As the gate crumbled into a heap of ruined stone and a tower of dust rose up into the sky, they followed their bloody standard into the city, voicing their terrible war-chant with every step.

New story is up:

Quote
The wind driven ahead of the storm was heavy and smelled of war, and in among the ruins it gathered up dust and whirled it into the shapes of devils out of the past. All around reared statues and reliefs cut by the hands of men who were almost gods, and now carved again by the wind and the sand of the desert. Al’kirr stood in the shadow of giants and the dying sun glinted on the spears of her warriors. She stood ahead of them, on a point of sand-blasted stone, and looked north to where the dark shadow of her enemy came over the earth.

Riding ahead of the storm, below a darkening sky that flickered as though the lighting itself lashed them on, came the riders of Masur the Dragoncrowned. His men rode behind him in a sweep of black-robed riders, cloaks billowing in the hot wind. She saw the gleam of storm-fire on spears and swords, heard the thunder of hooves beneath the growl of the storm. Two hundred men at the least, each of them a hardened desert hunter and killer, each with blood on their hands and on their swords.

Al’kirr awaited them with her bow in her hands, sword sheathed at her side. Her men wore red, in honor of their ancestors who once ruled this place. She wore red and gold, for she was their Queen, the Heir of the Stormriders. Above her veil, her eyes were wide and glinted like gold, rimmed with kohl and indigo. She crouched down and put her hand on the rock, felt the vibrations of the horses. She had less than a hundred men, all of them weary and thirsty. A moon of battles, a moon of blood, and now this remnant of her army waited here to die, in this place where once her bloodline were as gods.

She gathered up a handful of sand and felt it sift through her fingers, then she stood and let it fall, judging the wind. It was chaotic, swirling and eddying on the forward edge of the storm. Al’kirr had hoped to lose him here, to shelter in the ruins while the storm came in and drove him away, but he would not stop, and now it seemed they would spill their blood upon this ancient sand while the skies thundered and cast down fire.

New Story: "Sacrifices to the Moon"

Sheol left the northlands in the season of fire, riding south to where the grasslands faded into stone and dust, and ancient cities slumbered through ages. She crossed the wastes under the red star, until she found a road through the desolation and followed it to where it might go. The lands were without water or leaf, and she lived on the milk and blood of her horse until she left it behind her, dead in the cold of night. On foot she continued, past sand-robed ruins and wind-bitten pillars, over dusty beds where water once flowed, and past black-shaded chasms where no sun shone.

After many days, the dead road led her through a low, blasted valley and into rocky hills. By night, she came to a wide, still lake, too vast to see across. The moon shone down upon the leaden water, and mist covered the surface like the breath of ghosts.

Sheol lay down her saddlebags, drank deep of the cold water, filled her waterskin until it burgeoned. She washed the dust of long travel from her face, and then she rose and followed the shore star-ward, seeking a sign of man in this desolate place.

The moon was high, and the mist shrouded the lake and the land all around her, when she came upon a row of ancient pillars, broken with age. They marched across her path and into the water, where their stone grew mired and slick with water plants and the slime of gray mud. She passed the pillars and soon saw other marks of faded and broken civilization. And at midnight, when the moon was bright and small above, she found the stair.

Quote
Magan pressed onward through the jungle darkness, bloodied and exhausted, his body aflame with a dozen lesser wounds. The undergrowth ripped and tore at him, and he used his sword to hack at the vines that barred his path. The moon was high, and though the vaulted canopy of trees he saw the glow of it like silver whenever the branches parted enough to let it through.

Weariness dragged at him, and he ached to stop and lay down his body on the steaming forest floor and rest. He dared not, for he knew they were coming behind him. He did not hear them; he did not see them, only the blood-scent on the night wind bore any warning of their approach. The huntresses of the black jungle, the shapechangers, the Shanjama.

He did not know how long it had been since the ambush. A day? Two? The days were filled with mist, and the rains that fell at noon obscured the sky. He wandered in among the mighty trunks of the ancient trees, ever watchful for the many dangers of the highland rainforest – the snakes and venomous insects, the hungry reptiles and stalking leopards. Now he was far from the places known to men, deep in the trackless jungle, and he knew worse than vipers awaited him here.
