The Moon of Three Rings
by Andre Norton. Picked up a couple of old paperbacks at a used book sale a while back. Fun to see how science fiction themes and writing have changed in 40 years.

Frederick Lewis Allen's
Only Yesterday
I really think this should be required reading for all US students. I don't see how people can understand their own country without reading a book like this one.

Sounds pretty damn cool, and I'm a history whore anyway. I have reserved a copy at my library. Oh, yeah, in addition to being a history whore, I'm a huge nerd as well.

Eric Flint: 1634: The Bavarian War
- Third vol in an alternate history tale of a 20th century US town moved to 1632. Entertaining, but somewhat naive.

I've never read those, but Eric is a cool guy. He co-writes the Course of Empire books with my friend KD Wentworth.

The Silmarilion................. just speechless.
I can only dream that some day a very well produced tv series of this epic can be made.
Making a movie would be impossible. It would not be realistic to make it into a movie just due to the fact it is too long, and character development (unless narrated) would take up too much time, and there are waaaaaaaaayyyy too many characters!!!!!

Reading a collection of short stories from Lovecraft. I've read most of them already, but I wanted to catch a few that I've missed.

Please, Gods, don't let it happen.

I've never got all the way through that. I started reading it as a kid after LOTR, but it was like trying to read the bible. I don't know how well it reads now that I'm older.

My sentiments exactly. I plowed through it when I was in high school, but it was so dense with names and places, I can't remember anything. It reminds me of when Rev. Lovejoy on the Simpsons drones on and on about so-and-so the father of so-and-so, the father of so-and-so, as nauseum.

I never said it would be easy, but i bet few who read LotR before the movie came out believed it would be such a great movie, and it was quite true to the book apart for the ending and Tom Bombadil being left out.
Its definitley not an easy read especially if not read in a few days, cos i tend to forget the characters and have to go back few chapters to remember, so i ended up jotting some notes to have an idea of the characters, their families and their abode. After a few careful reads the big picture starts to form and it really is an awesome story.
