Drum Machine
« on: May 06, 2007, 04:24:56 PM »

I think you know of bands that use drum machine instead of a drummer. Can you tell me some? I just want to see how the drum machine sounds.

I can't really tell the difference between a machine and a real person for the most part. Maybe because the bands I've heard with a machine generally have the drum sound drowning in the background anyway.

Slightly unrelated, but check out this video. This guy is pretty cool - especially second half of the video...

The Kataklysm - In the Arms of Devastation CD came with a bonus DVD which includes that drum solo... but from a better camera angle (and more than one camera), with alot better sound.

Its pretty sweet, he's one of the fastest drummers I've seen.

Many bands these days are using digital computer drumkits, in fact the new Devin Townsend album (an incredibly ridiculous concept comic book album called "Ziltoid the Omniscient" or something like that) uses this exclusively. Not one single "real" drum was used directly by DT, and there is absolutely no way you can tell the difference.

Really? That's odd because these idiots gave Maurias the boot. He's no longer in the band. And their new album (your avatar) kind of sucked I thought. More and more melodeath in there than anything.

No drum machine will ever beat the real McCoy. They're to drums what synthesizers
are to guitars.

Thanks you guys. I'll check these bands. And yes, the drummer of Kataklysm is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. When I listened to the Arms of... cd, I thought that he used a lot of double bass. But when I watched the dvd, I realized the drummer what hitting the drum at an insane speed!! he's great.

Listen to Kataklysm's "Serenity In Fire". I don't think any album out there has better blasts than that one. In The Arms of Devastation has the new drummer, who is still pretty good, but nowhere near the guy in the video I posted.

I have to agree on the Serenity in Fire comment. It's crisp production with really fast blast-beats.
To be fair to the new drummer, the guitar-work in Serenity in Fire was superior to everything done in In The Arms of Devastation. You have wicked guitar tones that are neither too Melodic nor to "Death-ish" in Serenity but the later is just plain and monotonous Melo-Death.

They gave him the boot for the return of their drummer Max Duhamel, who is also insane behind the drums.

The DVD is called "The End of Serenity" and it has everything from Serenity in Fire and back. I'm assuming that it was the drummer from that album as well.

The CD "In the Arms of..." was alot different from previous Kataklysm albums, but I wouldn't say it sucked. I actually liked it alot, dispite the lack of "Northern Hyperblast" or whatever they used to call it. I find it enjoyable in its own way.
